IC:

Character name: Briefers Rock
Fandom: Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt
Timeline: Taking him from the end of the series + bringing him back with gargleblasted game memories.
Age: No actual age is given, as far as I know. Though considering Brief is in high school, I’d assume he’s somewhere around 16-18.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:

Despite his aspiration to become a great ghost hunter (of which he is self-proclaimed), the only thing Brief has going for him is his PKE meter, the clunky Ghostbusters-esque machine strapped to his back. With it, he can detect ghosts and shoot out a smokescreen if needed -- but even then, he tends to end up battered or in a heap of trash somewhere. Really, he's just too much of a geek to wield any actual abilities or strengths.

Or so you'd think.

It is later revealed that he does in fact possess one thing within himself: Hell’s Monkey, the mystical key to unlocking Hell’s Gate and unleashing a large ghost to take over both Heaven and Hell. Oh, and did I mention the key is actually his penis? Because it is.

How would they use their abilities?:

Well, he really... wouldn’t. Hell’s Monkey is something that Brief was completely unaware of until the last two episodes of the series. It was also something that he was forced to use against his will by the main villain, Corset, so the likelihood of him using it on the S.S. Thor is pretty much 0%.

Other than that, he may use his PKE meter on the odd occasion if he ever wants to try and detect ghosts on the ship. That or he decides to shoot out a smokescreen in order to escape from some nasty encounter. Though, to be honest, I doubt he'll even use those very often, if at all. He'll just...quiver and scream.

Appearance:

CHARACTER SHEET

Brief has a lean and meek appearance, which accurately matches up to his timid personality. He has extremely disheveled orange hair with bangs that completely cover up his eyes (yet is still able to see completely fine – don’t ask). As these bangs cover up the good majority of his face, the only other distinguishing feature he has are freckles; well, unless he slicks his hair back, because then it’s revealed that he is a pretty boy bishounen with green eyes. I wish I were joking.

Anytime he is seen, Brief will most likely be wearing his signature headphones and green jumpsuit, equipped with his PKE meter backpack that doubles as a smokescreen device. It looks as though he is dressed for a Ghostbusters convention.

Background/Personality:

Brief is your everyday average geek. So much, in fact, that it earns him the nickname “Geek Boy” from the Anarchy sisters, Panty and Stocking. He first encounters the angels when they infiltrate his high school in order to hunt down a ghost. Naturally he makes the worst first impression by running down the hallway, screaming and covered in bees, and falls on his face right in front of the Angel sisters. Already, he’s proven to be a bungling idiot and both Panty and Stocking are quick to label him as such, while treating him badly and freely laughing at his expense. Nevertheless, and despite all the abuse, Brief takes an interest in the sisters – which holds especially true for Panty, who he instantly gains a large crush on – because he is a huge follower of the occult and a self-proclaimed ghost hunter! And what’s better than getting to know two angels that have been sent from Heaven to destroy ghosts on Earth? Maybe even work with them?!

Well, though it may sound like a dream come true for a guy like him, being around the Anarchy sisters often puts Brief in a lot of unfavorable situations (which may as well account as his fault, as he’s the one who keeps going back and hanging around them). He is always the butt of the joke, even when he does manage to help out from time to time. For example, when his friends go missing due to a ghost at the high school? He tries to help Panty and Stocking by using his PKE meter in attempt to track out the ghosts, only to be ridiculed the entire time and, ultimately, have the meter blow up in his face. Another scenario is when there is a ghost stealing people’s undergarments, and it’s only Brief’s underwear that turn out to be the best weapon for Panty to use, transforming into a large double-barreled shotgun. However, it holds a mere four bullets and manages to only fire two, making it a “two pump chump”; a nice little sexual analogy that says a lot about Brief. As if he needed any more low blows to his confidence.

He does have a few shining moments. When the rules-obsessed demon sisters, Scanty and Kneesocks, enroll at the high school and begin to unleash hordes of mass-produced ghost drones, Brief plays a big part in assisting with their defeat. The machine the demon sisters were using to create the ghosts was powered by a jewel of some kind, which is left into the hands of Brief. He runs frantically throughout the school while Panty and Stocking fight off the enraged Scanty and Kneesocks, who are determined to retrieve the jewel back. After a ridiculously epic GAINAX-style fight between the angels and demons, Brief finds himself cornered on the roof by the demon sisters, who threaten Panty and Stocking with the fact that they’ll kill him if the angels try to pull any fast attacks. Well, of course that doesn’t bother the foul angels at all and they continue to walk forward with weapons at-the-ready, as much as it saddens Brief – they won’t even say his real name before he dies? Why does he hang out with them again…? – oh, wait, maybe they knew what they were doing after all! Scanty is so irritated by their lack of angelic behavior (they don't even care if a human is kiled?!), that she forgets about using Brief as a hostage and instead begins to fire at Panty and Stocking, giving Brief just the right amount of time to take the jewel out of his pants (where he hid it) and toss it towards the angels. Panty shoots the jewel into a thousand shards, destroying Scanty and Kneesocks’ plan, as well as leaving most of the school in rubble.

Yes, Brief did a good job! A very, very good job! Maybe he wasn’t such a geek after all! Panty takes slight notice of said accomplishments and heckles Brief by telling him that they should “make some fireworks” and do “what men and woman do together”. Naturally, Brief flushes uncontrollably and stammers all over the place, worried that they’d be taking it too fast and instead that they should start with a kiss, possibly on the cheek. Panty then reaffirms him that she’d never a fuck a geek boy, especially when he was acting like that, and proceeds to go home with her sister. Brief is left standing alone, stuttering Panty's name. Well, you know what they say: once a geek, always a geek. They do say that, right? Anyway, it proves that even when Brief is a winner, he’s still a loser.

Although he is kicked around for the majority of the time, Brief proves to be a prominent “voice of reason” for the angels. In an episode where Panty and Stocking have a fight and refuse to work together, Brief teams up with Panty for a short time, of which he uses to talk about how the sisters should reconcile. When the angels go to a casino in order to win money to pay back a debt they owe to Garterbelt, he’s the one who reminds them not to be so careless because the machines are rigged against them. And on a special occasion where Garterbelt decides to prepare a meal for the sisters but takes too long cooking, driving Panty and Stocking to order out a monumental amount of take-out, Brief is there to tell them how hard Garterbelt must have worked in order to cook for them. For the most part, his advice goes ignored by the Anarchy sisters, but it’s not too far-fetched to say that he’s a good influence on them; on the times they do listen, it’s obvious that they reevaluate the situation... even if they disregard everything by deriding him a few seconds later.

Other than that, Brief doesn’t receive much more character development within the series, if he appears in an episode at all. The series is chronological but doesn’t hold much consistency – most are typical “ghost of the week” fare or just straight-out ridiculous. When Brief does appear, he’s usually fumbling around and acting as the comedy relief. In one episode, Panty and Stocking are shrunken down and Brief accidentally swallows them, leaving them to cause mayhem inside his body. Yeah, kind of like that Magic School Bus episode. But this is Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt we’re talking about here, and soon Brief has an enormous stomach and must have a bowel movement in order to remove the sisters. There is, honest to god, a scene where his legs are on medical stirrups as Garterbelt examines him as though he’s a pregnant woman. Yeeaahh, the rest of the episodes provide about the same amount of substance to his character until about the last two or so, so let’s get to that!

After Panty and Stocking destroy enough ghosts, they are notified that they will be allowed back into Heaven. Though to be honest, it’s more of Stocking’s accomplishment, as Panty spent most of her time on Earth having sex with as many men as she could find rather than fighting ghosts – she has to have her 1,000th fuck before returning to Heaven, after all! Well, higher forces must have taken notice, as they only allow Stocking back, leaving Panty down on Earth to repeat her trial under on condition: no sex. This is where Brief comes in. He is more than happy to team up with Panty, as his crush for her still remains, though by this time it’s a lot stronger and more apparent. Little does he know, Panty expects him to go out and hunt ghosts for her while she continues to sleep with men. Well, of course that goes badly for Brief and he doesn’t defeat a single ghost. Then his “mission” is cut short when he gets a phone call about a certain party that he was apparently meant to attend. It’s obvious he doesn’t like those sorts of events, especially without a date – but that’s when the idea hits him, and he takes Panty along.

Needless to say, Panty is surprised to find out that Brief has connections to such an upscale crowd. She is so amazed by the surroundings that she doesn’t even notice Brief being taken away by a few security guards amidst the party. The next time she does see him, however? She doesn’t even recognize him. Dressed up in a white tuxedo and with his hair slicked back, Brief proves to be quite attractive. Not only that, but it turns out that he is also the son of the head of the Rock Foundation, a large corporation in Daten City. Oh, and the party was actually so that his father could announce Brief's wedding arrangement to one of the mayor’s daughters.... who happens the demon sister Scanty. Brief quickly refuses, rebelling against his father and proclaiming that the woman he truly wants to marry is none other than Panty. Angry, Scanty and Kneesocks begin to fight with Panty, but it’s clear to Brief that she’s no match for them without Stocking by her side. He uses his smokescreen so that he can grab Panty and escape – and it’s here that Panty realizes that the “mystery boy” is actually “geek boy”, much to her embarrassment. The two of them find a small, rundown shack to hide out in, where Brief promises to protect Panty because he loves her; at the same time, Panty decides she’ll settle for Brief as her one thousandth fuck. Normally, Brief would flail uncontrollably, but there is a silent determination to him at this point, and he goes along with her...

That is, until she starts complaining about being in pain and promptly kicks him out of the bed. He just can’t win, can he? Well, the reason for Panty’s sudden discomfort is that her hymen had been reconstructed (again, I wish I was joking), taking away her powers as an angel. Oh, and let’s not forget the fact that Corset, the demon mayor of Daten City, appears from the shadows to announce that Brief’s penis is actually the key dubbed Hell’s Monkey that unlocks something called Hell’s Gate. Corset plans plans to open Hell's Gate and unleash havoc onto both Heaven and Hell. Corset leaves the weakened Panty behind and kidnaps Brief, dragging him to where Hell’s Gate is located and ties him up. There’s a slight problem, however: Brief’s keypenis needs to be erect in order for it to fit properly into the keyhole, and he is about as flaccid as one could be in his terrifying situation. That is, until Panty arrives after some weird Gainax-esque sequence where, after being some small-town farm girl, she remembers that she is meant for so much more and is an angel…yeah, I didn’t really get it either, but hey if it means she’s back in action, I guess that’s all we need to know.

Anyway, just seeing Panty is pretty much enough to arouse Brief, and the angel makes sure to get right to business, climbing on top of him and officially making him her number one thousand, breaking her reconstructed hymen and restoring her angelic powers. Around the same time, Stocking comes down from Heaven to help fight the demon sisters and Corset, which also gives Panty and Brief adequate time to get busy while Stocking holds the demons off. So with Panty’s newly restored powers, she and Stocking begin to battle it out with the demon sisters. Somewhere along the line, Brief ends up doing something what should be expected of him, and falls right into the keyhole of Hell’s Gate, unlocking it and unleashing a large ghost that begins to wreck havoc on Daten City.

Panty and Stocking continue to battle it out with Scanty and Kneesocks, and Garterbelt arrives to duke it out with Corset – that is, until Corset rips out Garterbelt’s heart and kills him. In true Anarchy sister fashion, Panty and Stocking show little remorse for their fallen comrade, which evokes a strong reaction out of Brief; “Aren’t you sad?! I don’t believe this! You two really are bitches! Always acting selfishly and joking around! Have you ever been serious about anything?!”. Considering how meek Brief generally is, this moment shows how he can swallow his timid nature and speak his mind when pushed enough to the brink. Even so, his words are quickly spat on, as the angels respond that they’re always “seriously joking around” and continue on to fight with Corset, this time with more intensity than before. After a ridiculous battle where a model’s legs (Panty and Stocking’s mother, apparently) comes out from the sky to stomp down on the unleashed ghost, Corset is defeated and peace is restored to Daten City as well as Heaven and Earth. Garterbelt returns to life, Chuck transforms into a giant zipper and seals Hell’s Gate, Brief’s penis returns to normal and, by golly, everything is just swell!

Or is it? Well, Gainax obviously wasn’t satisfied with such a tame ending and went ahead and slipped in a complete troll moment. They just had to, dammit! It’s what they’re known for!! Anyway, as the Anarchy group is headed back to the church, Stocking uses her katana to cut Panty into 666 pieces, revealing that she was a demon the entire time. Then, this weird…blob thing that resembles Corset emerges from Brief’s penis, informing him that he must travel to the neighboring city, Oten City, where they will use his keydick to once again unlock Hell’s Gate. Along the way, he will have to collect all the pieces of Panty if he ever wants to see her again! No joke.

GB HISTORY:
And it would be at this time, by this community's standards, that his planet was destroyed and Brief arrived on the S.S. Thor. And it didn't take long for Brief to find himself in a bad situation, if you can believe it. As he introduces himself to the ship via his Guide, a small leech-like alien bites onto his finger and subsequently sucks his blood. It's then that Brief is introduced to a lot of people on the ship, as a good percentage come to his aide .... while the other percentage mock him. We'll get to a few prominent faces in a moment, because it is also during his arrival that he sees Panty and Stocking again.

Yeeeaaah, he sees them immediately after seeing not only Panty get chopped up into little bits, but Stocking had revealed herself as a demon. Brief proceeds to FREAK OUT. He tries to avoid Stocking in fear, but he also takes note of how the angel seems completely oblivious and even insulted to being called a demon. She laughs when he explains and mocks him. This is quite troubling to Brief, as he knew what had happened before... but he doesn't press it too much. Instead, he tries to talk with Panty on the subject. He tells her about Stocking being a demon and about how she was cut into 666 pieces and them being intimate... only to be laughed at again. Was what happened back in Daten City all a dream? Maybe. It seemed that way. It was at this point, after much contemplation, that Brief decided it was all a geek's dream. As much as he wanted to believe, he knew he'd only be making a fool of himself. Besides, it was definitely better for Panty to be in piece and Stocking her normal self. No point in complaining.

As Brief stayed on the Thor, he made a good deal of acquaintances. The most prominent of them would be Shinpachi. He instantly had an admiration for the guy--well, after a rather hectic ordeal with the leech alien during Brief's arrival--once he saw Shinpachi's katana. Brief saw Shinpachi as some noble samurai that was brave and strong. After that day, he made sure to keep in contact with Shinpachi and found himself more and more wanting to be like Shinpachi. So much, in fact, that he called Shinpachi "sensei" on an occasion, and proceeded to say that he wanted to be Shinpachi's student. As his student, he promised he'd work hard and wouldn't let Shinpachi down.

When the Thor encountered an abandoned ship, Shinpachi and Brief boarded in order to look for friends. Brief was determined to show Shinpachi how strong he was! He was a student to be proud of! Well, that quickly ended when the two of them ran into a group of frightening aliens. As the aliens chased them, Brief hollered to his sensei to fight them. He couldn't believe that Shinpachi wasn't living up to the daydreams he had of his noble sensei warrior! When the two of them managed to get away from the blood-thirsty aliens and find a safe spot, it was there that Shinpachi confided in Brief that he wasn't actually some heroic warrior. In fact, he was quite like Brief himself: a geek. So even when he thought he had some glimmer of hope to grow and become something more than a loser, Brief still failed. However, Shinpachi was Brief's friend... and that wasn't going to change. He still thought of Shinpachi as warrior and still wanted to be his student, even if it meant working together to become better.

Among the other faces on the Thor, Brief also got to know Rikku. At first, she was trying to sell gas masks and easily got Brief to buy some with a few scare tactics. However, Rikku felt a little sorry for how pathetic Brief seemed and began to talk to him more personally. Brief, of course, was spellbound. Never before had a girl acted to kindly to him--and she was pretty! Just like with Panty, Brief instantly gained a crush on her. The more he ran into and talked to Rikku, the more he liked her. And it seemed like Rikku liked him too (or maybe it was all in his head...). Either way, Brief was beginning to see that other people liked him, which was a new experience. Possibly, and just possibly, he could see himself detaching from Panty a little if more girls kept treating him that way. But don't bet on it.

Those are only two examples out of many, but are the most prominent. Brief also had quick run ins with ghosts from another universe. Their planet was also destroyed and they weren't anything like the ghosts he had encountered back home. No, these ghosts seemed to be friendly and looked just like people. Brief found himself questioning everything he knew as a ghosthunter. Was it possible that ghosts weren't so bad after all...? He didn't really know for sure, but he did make friends with them. With so many new experiences, Brief continuously found himself discovering new things about himself and gradually growing as an individual.

However, his stay on the Thor was quite brief (haha!!) and he didn't make too many strong relationships besides the ones mentioned. While on the Thor, he was still mocked and teased--but he also was valued and liked. He grew a little stronger, maybe even gained a little confidence, but not by much. He was actually happy on the Thor--it was the first time he had truly made genuine friends.

Have you read up on how the game works?:
Yes, I have. The communication device that the characters use is called the FlamingFerret. A character can gain money by taking up a job, attending classes, or simply mooching off another character.

1st person sample:

[The Guide flickers on. All that can be seen is a mess of orange hair. The camera shakes a bit, as if held in unstable hands.]

A-Ah, there we go!

[Then, the camera is pulled back to reveal a young man, eyes hidden behind orange bangs. It’s Brief, as some may recognize him. He smiles cautiously, obviously nervous.]

This… This is the S.S. Thor, right? Is anyone there? It’s me, B-Brief!

[gulp.]

Pl…please tell me everyone is okay. Sensei? Stocking? Rikku? P... Panty…?

[He shuffles a bit, his brow furrowed in distress. He then begins to shake the guide slightly.]

I-IF ANYONE IS THERE, PLEASE ANSWER ME!!!

3rd person sample:

There was no doubt about it: he was up to no good. Brief had tried time and time again to make the same chocolate dessert for a handful of people now, and it was apparent that fate was simply against him. If he wasn’t slipping and falling on a puddle of syrup, then he was causing the blender to explode and make a mess of the walls. Yeah, he was definitely up to no good—but what else was new? It was his third day working at the alien sweets shop on the S.S. Thor and, with Valentine’s Day approaching, he was determined to master the technique and make Panty a one-of-a-kind chocolate. It would all be done by his hand. That was, if he didn’t lose his hand first.

“Come on, geek boy, we don’t have all day!” An impatient customer, alien and grotesque with many tentacles, chides from behind the counter.

Geek boy. Why can’t he seem to escape that title? No matter where he goes, it follows him. Even to completely different life forms, he stands out as a loser for some reason. At the same time, it made him all the more determined to prove himself. He was more than a geek and he’d prove it! Especially to his friends Panty and Stocking, the fallen angels who dubbed him the infamous nickname long ago and, ever since then, mocked him on a regular basis. Then maybe—just maybe—Panty would see more in him and reciprocate his feelings.

“C-Coming!” Brief calls out to the customer. He grabs a dish and places the chocolate concoction inside. It looked… not half bad. Perhaps he was getting the hang of this. A small smile tugs at Brief’s lips as he walks to the front, dessert in hand. “Here you go now, mi—”

Just as fate would have it, he trips.

On his own damn shoelaces.

Gyaaa!”

As Brief’s face hits the hard floor below, the dessert flings out from the plate and perfectly lands in the alien customer’s face, covering her in a chocolaty goop. And in that moment, Brief wished that the fall had killed them.

Yeah, he was up to no good.

Questions?: No.
